Welcome to Tuscarawas County (Tus’-ca-raw-as) …
Tuscarawas is an Indian word meaning “mouth of the river”. Much of our popularity as a tourist destination in Eastern Ohio comes from our nearly 20 museums and our 300 events and festivals that spice all four seasons.
Witness a sunrise over the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, walk through the beautifully restored 1882 Tuscarawas County Courthouse complete with murals on the rotunda ceiling and walls or coast leisurely down the Tuscarawas river in a canoe or a tube. Finish your day with the most difficult decision of your journey as you decide between fresh rhubarb pie, peanut butter pie or raspberry meringue for dessert. From cultures and communities as distinct as the Amish and Mennonites, to villages and towns with biblical names such as Zoar and Goshen, Tuscarawas County has a varied list of people and places that have formed our county (and this nation) into what it is today.
While visiting our county, stop at the official Welcome Center at 124 E. High Avenue in downtown New Philadelphia for a free cup of coffee, public restrooms, a browse through hundreds of area attraction, lodging, event and shopping brochures, and a free gift.
